Our focus yesterday evening (Wednesday 10 June 2020) was on the press conference from the Fed Chair, Jay Powell, for any hints on what the US central bank may do in the future following last Friday’s (5 June 2020) stunning employment data (when 2.5m jobs were added).

Global equities continue to weaken after the recent strong rally. Having ended yesterday (Tuesday 9 June 2020) down 136.87 points, or 2.12%, the FTSE-100 is down a further 30 points, or 0.5%, this morning.

Although the FTSE-100 ended yesterday down 11.71 points (or 0.18%) and is currently down a further 100 points (1.50%) this morning, it doesn’t mean that last week’s equity market rally has run its course as there are plenty of signs that the positive sentiment is here to stay given the continuing easing of lockdowns

Equities on Wall Street closed mixed last night (4 June 2020) following US jobless data: while the Dow Jones mustered a gain of 11.93 points, or 0.05%, the broader based S&P 500 index fell 0.34%.
